Catching up with Rose, Goodspeed
Joey Goodspeed and Mike Rose, two of the key figures in Purdue's 28-23 win over Notre Dame last season, have experienced some life changes over the past year.
Goodspeed, who started seven games for the Irish last year, signed a free-agent contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers after going undrafted.
The Montgomery, Ill., native was cut and hopes to land with another team.
"Right now, I'm just sitting and waiting for a phone call," he said. "If it doesn't come, I guess I'm going to talk to my agent about the XFL or maybe NFL Europe."
Rose, who played baseball at Purdue for three seasons, is transferring to Wright State to be closer to family. He has one year of baseball eligibility left.
He'll also walk down the aisle with fiancee Amber Wells on Sept. 16.
Why should that date sound familiar?
Because it's this Saturday, the same day as this year's Notre Dame-Purdue game.
"If you'd have asked me after the game last year if I'd be getting married a year from then, I'd have laughed at you," he said.
A few of his old teammates were asked to be in the wedding party, but they have prior commitments. With the ceremony set for 4:30 p.m., Rose likely won't get to see the finish.
"I'm really looking forward to catching the highlights," he said. "I might even get to catch the first part of it."
